NHL to Get Deceased Player’s Phone in Concussion Suicide Suit

The widow of ex-NHL player Todd Ewen, who alleges multiple concussions he sustained during his years of playing caused him to commit suicide, must turn over his mobile phone to the league to search his text messages for evidence of why he took his own life, the Central District of California ruled.

The league, in October, filed a motion seeking an order that it be allowed to conduct a forensic search for messages, including any deleted messages, to determine whether an argument may have led to Ewen’s suicide.
