NFL, Players to Settle Concussion Claims

The National Football League agreed to pay $765 million to settle consolidated suits by thousands of former professional football players over neurological problems and cognitive injuries, the parties’ mediator announced Aug. 29 (In re NFL Players’ Concussion Injury Litig., E.D. Pa., No. 2:12-md-02323).

Claims against helmet maker Ridell Inc. for design and manufacturing defects remain in mediation, and those negotiations are still the subject of a gag order, according to an Aug. 29 court order in the multidistrict litigation. The MDL is in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
