New Trial Ordered in Bell Helicopter Crash Case

Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. and Rolls-Royce Corp. may have intentionally withheld crucial information about the cause of a 2008 helicopter crash during discovery, requiring a new trial (West v. Bell Helicopter Textron, Inc., 2017 BL 117506, D.N.H., 10-cv-214, 4/10/17).

Bell engineer Michael Vautour arrived at a determination concerning the cause of the crash of the Bell 407 helicopter only two weeks before jury selection. Its concealment may have “substantially interfered” with plaintiff Kurt West’s case, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire ruled April 10.
