‘New GM’ Dodges Tennessee Ignition Switch Injury Suit

General Motors LLC won’t have to face a suit by two Tennessee plaintiffs alleging they were hurt in a car accident caused by a flawed ignition switch.

Melanie Thomas and Paul Rupchak’s suit is untimely under Tennessee’s 10-year product liability statute of repose, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York said.

GM recalled millions of vehicles beginning in February 2014 for ignition switches that could get jostled into the “off” position, causing stalls and air-bag failures. More than 100 crash deaths have been linked to the faulty switches.
