New EPA Chemical Risk Strategies Detailed For Critique (1)

The EPA’s chemicals office aims to evaluate chemical risks more completely and incorporate conclusions from other offices and countries to make the agency’s findings timely, legally defensible, and more protective, the agency’s top chemicals official said Monday.

Michal Ilana Freedhoff, assistant administrator for chemical safety and pollution prevention, briefed a committee of non-agency scientific advisers about new strategies her office is proposing to take to improve the chemical risk evaluations it conducts.

Those analyses, which underlie the Environmental Protection Agency’s decisions about whether to regulate chemicals and how, must comply with science requirements in the 2016 Toxic Substances Control Act ...
