The Food and Drug Administration will be proposing new definitions for “healthy” and “natural” claims on food labels soon, an agency official said Friday.

The FDA is “close” to proposing a new definition for “healthy” and is “working diligently” on the claim “natural”, Dr. Susan Mayne, director of the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition at FDA, said in opening remarks at the agency’s public meeting to discuss food standards of identity.
