New CPSC Rules Put Out for Third-Party and Component Part Testing of Kids’ Products

The Consumer Product Safety Commission published two final rules Nov. 8 requiring the independent testing and certification of children’s products, and allowing for the testing of component parts instead of the final product.

The testing and labeling rule establishes protocols and standards for manufacturers to certify and conduct continued testing of children’s products (76 Fed Reg. 69482). The rule becomes effective Feb. 8, 2013, and applies to products manufactured after that date.
