Neutrogena Hit With New Suit Over Benzene in Sunscreen

Neutrogena Corp. allegedly dupes consumers by selling sunscreen products adulterated with benzene, a carcinogenic impurity that’s been linked to leukemia and other cancers, a Florida woman says in a new proposed class suit.

The presence of benzene in Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Weightless Sunscreen Spray and other products renders them adulterated and misbranded, Shelli French alleges in a suit filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

As a result, the products are illegal to sell under federal law and therefore worthless, she alleges.
