Nellie’s Free Range Egg Company, Consumers Settle Deception Suit

The producer of Nellie’s Free Range Eggs has reached a settlement with consumers who alleged the company dupes them into thinking the eggs come from humanely raised hens, according to a filing in federal court in New York.

Anne Flournoy and others sued Pete and Gerry’s Organics LLC last year, alleging its packaging is misleading. The packaging says the company’s hens enjoy “love,” “better lives,” and “green grass,” and shows hens frolicking outside, but the birds are kept in cramped cages that limit natural movement and allow for little or no outdoor access, they alleged.
