Claims that the National Basketball Association is liable for the on-court death of a rising star will now be litigated in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, according to a May 2 court filing.
The transfer follows a ruling by the Eastern District of Michigan that it wasn’t the best forum to decide tort claims stemming from the death of Zena “Zeke” Upshaw, who played for a minor league NBA affiliate of the Detroit Pistons.
