Monsanto Must Defend Suit Blaming Roundup for Texas Man’s Cancer

Monsanto Co. failed to shake off claims that its Roundup weedkiller caused a Texas man’s cancer, after a federal court found there’s a triable issue on whether the suit is barred by a state law shielding manufacturers from liability for products approved or licensed by federal agencies.

Monsanto asked the court for summary judgment, arguing that Texas law bars the product liability claims because the EPA approved and registered Roundup and its active ingredient, glyphosate, for distribution and sale.
