Medtronic Shakes Michigan Woman’s Hernia Mesh Suit

Medtronic PLC and its Covidien LP unit fended off a woman’s suit alleging a defective hernia mesh product damaged her intestines.

Rebecca Barnes couldn’t show there was a feasible alternative design for the Prietex PCO mesh, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan said in dismissing her design defect claim. Nor did she allege facts that could support a manufacturing defect claim, it said.

Barnes underwent hernia repair surgery in 2014.
