Medifast Beats Suit Alleging Food Caused Thyroid Dysfunction

Medifast Inc. is off the hook in a woman’s suit alleging soy protein in its weight-loss products caused her hypothyroidism.

Angela Loverdi failed to produce reliable expert testimony linking her underactive thyroid to her consumption of soy-based foods, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said.

Without expert proof, she can’t prove her case and Medifast is entitled to judgment, the court said.
