McDonald’s Ice Cream Contains Fake Vanilla, Class Suit Says

McDonald’s Corp. was hit with a proposed consumer class action in the Northern District of California alleging its vanilla soft serve ice cream contains fake vanilla.

The suit is one of dozens challenging products labeled “vanilla” but made with artificial flavoring.

McDonalds’ representations about the product are false, misleading, and unlawful because the vanilla soft serve ice cream is flavored by vanillin and contains less actual vanilla than consumers expect, the complaint filed Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California says.
