McCormick Gets ‘Natural’ Spice Suit Trimmed, Put on Hold

McCormick & Co. shook some claims in a proposed class suit alleging it deceptively labels spices and seasoning products as “natural” when they contain genetically modified and synthetic ingredients.

The spice giant also got the suit put on hold.

Plaintiff Megan Holve can’t pursue claims for injunctive relief, like marketing changes, individually or for the would-be class, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of New York said.

Because Holve said she wouldn’t buy the products again as currently labeled, she hasn’t shown that she’ll be harmed in the future, a prerequisite for injunctive relief, the court said.
