L’Oréal Misleads Consumers About PFAS in Mascaras, Lawsuit Says

L’Oréal USA marketed its waterproof mascaras as safe and effective, but the cosmetics company failed to disclose the products contained “forever chemicals” known as PFAS, according to a proposed class action filed in a New York federal court.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS, are toxic to humans in small amounts, individual consumers told the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. This is true even when the substances aren’t ingested but instead applied to the skin, especially near the eyes, the lawsuit says.
