Lawyer’s Widow Loses Appeal Over $3 Million Paxil Suicide Award

The widow of an attorney who committed suicide while taking a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline’s Paxil antidepressant won’t get a $3 million jury award reinstated as the Seventh Circuit said its prior decision finding the warning claims preempted would have been the same under the newest U.S. Supreme Court decision.

A jury awarded the damages to Wendy Dolin, widow of Stewart Dolin, in 2017. She argued that GSK, which created the warning that the generic drugmaker was required to use, failed to warn about the risk of suicide in adult patients.
