Juul Suits Alleging Improper Youth Marketing Consolidated

More than 50 suits alleging Juul Labs Inc. improperly markets its e-cigarette devices and nicotine cartridges, particularly to teens, will be consolidated and overseen by a single judge.

The common issues make coordination in a multidistrict litigation appropriate, the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation said Oct. 2.

The MDL will be overseen by Judge William Orrick of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Juul and its stockholder Altria Group Inc. favored consolidation, as did some plaintiffs. At least one plaintiff sought separate multidistrict litigations for class actions and personal-injury cases, but the panel rejected that proposal. ...
