In Rare Rebuff, Justices Say U.S. Can’t Argue in Ford Dispute (2)

The U.S. Supreme Court told Solicitor General Noel Francisco and a coalition of states on Monday that they won’t get to argue in a pair of Ford Motor Co. jurisdiction disputes that have the potential to significantly limit where companies can be sued in product liability cases.

It’s not only unusual for the Supreme Court to deny the solicitor general’s request to participate at argument, but unheard of in recent years when cases involve personal jurisdiction, a determination of whether a particular court has the authority to hear a dispute.
