J.M. Smucker Hit With Lawsuits Over Recalled Jif Peanut Butter

Days after it recalled some peanut butter products for possible salmonella contamination, J.M. Smucker Co. was hit with a state court suit by a Georgia man alleging he was sickened and a proposed class suit in federal court in Kentucky, alleging it deceptively marketed the products as healthful.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. In healthy people, it causes fever and gastrointestinal symptoms.
