J&J Unit, Allergan Hit With New Breast Implant Suits

Allergan, Inc. and Mentor Worldwide LLC face new suits linking certain silicone-filled breast implants with a rare type of cancer.

Renee Cashen, Michele Rea, and Kimra Rogers say their implants caused a cancer of the immunse system known as “Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma,” or “BIA-ALCL.”

Allergan and Mentor, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, knew or should have known that the textured-surface implants were associated with this form of cancer, the complaints in New Jersey Superior Court allege.

The Food and Drug Administration first reported a possible association with implants and lymphoma in 2011.
