J&J Recalled Sunscreen Settlement Gets Judge’s Early Approval

Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. and purchasers of sunscreens that were recalled because of possible benzene contamination secured a Florida federal court’s initial approval of a settlement that includes full refunds on recalled products, vouchers toward future product purchases, and new testing procedures.

A slew of proposed class actions followed a May report by online pharmacy Valisure, which detected benzene in several brands and batches of spray sunscreen, including the J&J unit’s Aveeno and Neutrogena brands. The litigation was consolidated in the Southern District of Florida.
