Ingersoll-Rand, Others Dodge Suit Over Post-Sale Asbestos Parts

Ingersoll-Rand Co., Fisher Controls Intl. LLC, and several other industrial product makers defeated claims by the estate of a man who died of mesothelioma after the Tennessee Supreme Court ruled they had no duty to warn about the post-sale addition of asbestos-containing parts into their valves, pumps and steam traps.

The manufacturers aren’t liable under the Tennessee Products Liability Act for the addition of the third-party parts used to repair and maintain the equipment because they were incorporated into the products after they left their control, the court said Monday.
