Industry Likely to Adopt Voluntary Standard On Baby Carriers; Education Campaign Eyed

A new voluntary baby-sling standard is on the way, an industry group announced March 17.

“These are the first standards for this product category, sling carriers, that we’ve had in the United States,” Vesta Garcia, the executive director of the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance, told BNA March 17.

The new guidelines, under the auspices of ASTM International, will provide design recommendations from engineering and human-factors perspectives, BCIA said in a statement. The document also will recommend instructions and warnings related to the safe use of baby slings.
