BlueTriton Brands Inc. defeated a proposed class action alleging a “100% Natural Spring Water” label on its Ice Mountain bottled water was deceptive because the drink contains microplastics, because federal definitions for spring water don’t mention the substances, a federal judge said.
“The existence of microplastics doesn’t mean that the spring water isn’t spring water. And it doesn’t mean that the spring water isn’t natural,” Judge Steven C. Seeger of the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said Aug. 9, dismissing the suit. “The complaint doesn’t hold water.”
