Hyundai Wins Reversal of $14.1M Verdict; Improper Airbag Expert Testimony Admitted

Hyundai has won reversal of a $14.1 million jury verdict for the family of a man injured in an accident in which his car’s airbag failed to deploy as the Virginia Supreme Court found the admission of an expert’s opinion improper (Hyundai Motor Co. v. Duncan, 2015 BL 3207, Va., No. 140216).

Hyundai Motor Co. and Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) argued on appeal an insufficient foundation existed for the opinion of the plaintiff’s expert—mechanical engineer Geoffrey Mahon.
