Hyundai Gets Final OK for Elantra Engine Class Settlement

Warranty extensions and reimbursements by Hyundai Motor America and Hyundai Motor Co. make up a fair, adequate, and reasonable settlement of class claims that Hyundai Elantra engines knock and fail, a federal court in New Jersey ruled.

About 200 car owners opted out of the deal, according to the order entered Wednesday by the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey.

Judge Susan D. Wigenton granted the plaintiffs’ request for $875,000 in attorneys’ fees in a separate ruling Monday.

In a previous filing, the consumers didn’t estimate the total amount of benefits, which aren’t capped.
