Humana Sues Teva Over Recalled, Tainted Blood Pressure Drugs

Health insurer Humana Inc. has sued Teva Pharmaceuticals USA Inc. and related companies, alleging they must pay it back for replacing members’ recalled blood pressure medications, according to new filings in a New Jersey federal court.

The Food and Drug Administration first announced in 2018 that it was recalling valsartan drugs because of their contamination with likely cancer-causing substances.

It later announced additional recalls of valsartan drugs and similar products manufactured, distributed, or sold by Teva and non-parties, Humana’s Aug. 7 complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey says.
