Four major automakers have been sued by U.S. consumers to recover economic costs stemming from allegedly defective Takata Corp. air bags.
Class-action complaints were filed March 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against General Motors Co., Volkswagen AG and related units, Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Benz USA LLC, and FCA US LLC.
Consumers are seeking damages for the diminished value of vehicles and automakers’ alleged delays of recalling and replacing defective parts. Automakers also deceived the public about the defects and their associated dangers, the complaints allege.
