GM Gets Claims Trimmed From Vortec Engine Oil-Guzzling Lawsuit

General Motors LLC got some claims cut from a proposed class suit over alleged excess oil consumption in vehicles equipped with a Generation IV Vortec 5300 LC9 engine.

Robert Awalt, who bought a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado, alleges that his truck and other 2010-2014 models have engines with flawed piston rings that cause the engine to guzzle oil. The defect can cause low oil levels and insufficient lubrication, which can lead to engine damage, he alleged in a suit in the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
