GM Agreed to Pay $13.9 Million to Settle California Suit

General Motors Co. agreed to pay $13.9 million to settle a California lawsuit alleging violations of consumer protection laws related to the company’s 2014 recalls for ignition switch defects and other flaws, according to court documents (California v. General Motors, Cal. Super. Ct., No. 30-2014-00731038, 10/25/17).

The settlement follows the announcement Oct. 19 that GM agreed to pay $120 million to 49 states and the District of Columbia to resolve an investigation into claims that the company failed to disclose safety defects related to ignition switch or key rotation flaws.
