Glad ‘Recycling’ Bags Can’t be Recycled, False-Ad Suit Alleges

Glad Products Co. and its parent company Clorox Co. take advantage of eco-conscious consumers by deceptively marketing Glad “recycling” trash bags that aren’t recyclable, and falsely labeling them as “designed for municipal use,” a new proposed class suit alleges.

Nearly all municipalities ban the use of any trash bag for recycling, Patrick Peterson alleges in a suit filed Thursday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California.

Peterson’s lawsuit is among a growing number of consumer suits targeting alleged “greenwashing,” or company misrepresentations that a product is recyclable, sustainable, or otherwise environmentally friendly.
