Onewheel electric skateboard maker Future Motion Inc. convinced the US Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation on Friday to combine riders’ injury suits and send them to a California federal courtroom for pretrial proceedings.
Some 31 suits in 14 federal district courts have been filed by riders who allege their Onewheels unexpectedly stopped or shut off while they were riding, causing them to fall off the board and get hurt. A rider stands sideways in a Onewheel as on a traditional skateboard. After the board is turned on, the motor engages and the rider’s movements control the board’s movement.
