Frank Yiannas, Walmart VP, Headed to Key FDA Post

The appointment of Frank Yiannas as an FDA deputy commissioner will benefit consumers and the food industry, lawyers on both sides of food safety litigation tell Bloomberg Law .

Yiannas is currently vice president for food safety and health for Walmart Inc.

He will join the agency as its Deputy Commissioner of Food Policy and Response, FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced to agency staff Oct. 18. Among his duties will be the development and use of new technologies to track food supplies and ensure effective recalls during foodborne illness outbreaks.
