Ford Out-of-State Sale Case Raises Justice Concerns, Court Says

Ford Motor Co. had an accident case involving a car originally sold out-of-state transferred, rather than dismissed, after the federal court handling the matter agreed it lacked jurisdiction but voiced concerns about the real-world impact the Supreme Court could have if it ruled in the automaker’s favor in similar cases.

If the U.S. District Court for the District of the Virgin Islands were to simply dismiss Millentine Coates’s case against Ford, her claims would be time-barred in the two jurisdictions where the company is “at home,” Judge Robert A. Molloy said.
