Ford Gets Verdict Tossed in Faulty Transmission Test Case

A couple who went to trial over an allegedly defective transmission in their Ford Focus and won a $23,000 jury verdict didn’t adequately support their case with evidence that they gave Ford opportunities to fix the problem, a federal court in California ruled.

Yvonne and Salvador Quintero were bellwether plaintiffs in consolidated litigation against Ford Motor Co. over its DPS6 transmission. The litigation, overseen by Judge André Birotte Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, consists of about 1,000 cases, according to the court.
