The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has demanded documents from Ford Motor Co. as part of a three-year probe into allegations that the company’s Explorer sport-utility vehicle exposed some drivers to exhaust fumes and carbon monoxide gas.
NHTSA’s sweeping request is the first public sign of activity in NHTSA’s probe of the alleged defect since July 2017, when the agency escalated its review to a more rigorous investigation.
