Fiat Chrysler Drivers’ Diesel Fuel Pump Lawsuit Mooted by Recall

FCA US LLC and engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. shed a proposed class suit alleging certain Ram trucks are equipped with defective fuel pumps, as a federal court in Michigan said a recall moots the drivers’ claims.

Fifteen drivers from 18 states alleged the Cummins engines contain flawed high-pressure CP4 pumps that aren’t compatible with US diesel fuel, which contains less lubrication that European diesel fuel. As a result, friction between metal parts causes metal shavings to contaminate the fuel system, which can lead to engine failure, the drivers said.
