Ford Motor Co. is recalling 281,000 F-150 pickup trucks to address a door handle spring defect that could cause the door latch to fail to open in a side-impact crash, according to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall documents posted Feb. 3.
The agency said the interior door handle housing embossment that retains the interior door handle spring could fracture during normal use, which could cause inadequate spring for the handle to return to its stowed position (NHTSA Recall #11V-049). In a side-impact crash, the door handle spring could fail, causing the door latch to open.
