DuPont Faces Trial on Former Tire Plant Worker’s Cancer Suit

E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. and First Chemical Corp. are facing trial on a former Goodyear employee’s claims that exposure to a chemical in a tire manufacturing product caused his bladder cancer, following a Wednesday Second Circuit ruling that his expert was wrongly excluded.

James H. Sarkees worked in a Niagara Falls, N.Y., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. plant for seven months in 1974, the court said. He took chemical samples and unloaded railroad tank cars, the majority of which contained orthotoluidine.
