Deal Ending Ford Explorer Exhaust Suit Gets Final OK

Ford Motor Co’s nationwide class settlement with owners of 2011-15 Ford Explorers with exhaust problems received final court approval (Knutson v. Ford Motor Co., S.D. Fla., 0:14-cv-61344-WPD, 6/20/17).

Compared with an earlier proposed settlement, the final agreement boosts the maximum reimbursement Ford will pay for post-warranty “exhaust odor repairs” from $125 to $175, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida said in approving the deal June. 20.

The litigation alleges the Explorer models were defectively designed, allowing exhaust and other gases, including carbon monoxide, to enter the passenger compartment.
