Dave Inc. Faces Class Action Over Mobile App Data Breach

Mobile software developer Dave Inc. was hit with a proposed class action on behalf of 7.5 million users over a June 2020 cyberattack on the company’s app that exposed users’ passwords and encrypted Social Security numbers.

The hackers also accessed users’ names, e-mail addresses, dates of birth, physical addresses and phone numbers, the complaint filed Monday alleges.

The plaintiffs allege Dave failed to take reasonable steps to prevent the breach, failed to monitor and timely detect the breach, and failed to provide the class members with prompt and accurate notice of the breach.
