Oil pipeline developer Dakota Access LLC quashed claims by North Dakota landowners that the company induced them to sign easement contracts through misrepresentation.
The Morton County, N.D. landowners allege the company told them that the best price anyone would receive for granting access was $180 for each 16.5-foot unit of pipe.
They later learned that some property owners were offered much larger sums, according to the complaint.
The allegations fail because they aren’t specific enough to meet the standard for fraud, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit said.
