Daimler Must Disclose Names in Diesel Suit Despite EU Data Law

Daimler AG and its subsidiary Mercedes-Benz USA have to hand over organizational charts and other materials to lawyers for consumers suing over alleged diesel-emissions misrepresentations, even if the companies face repercussions in the European Union, a federal court in New Jersey ruled.

The EU’s interest in protecting its citizens’ privacy doesn’t outweigh the U.S.'s interest in the integrity of its evidence system, particularly with a confidentiality order in place, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey said Thursday in several consolidated proposed class actions.
