Industrial products manufacturer Crane Co. will appeal a $25 million award by a New York jury in favor of a retired electrician and the estate of a pipefitter who alleged workplace exposure to Crane’s asbestos-containing parts caused their mesothelioma (Hackshaw v. ABB, Inc., N.Y. Sup. Ct., No. 190022-13; Sweberg v. ABB, Inc., N.Y. Sup. Ct., No. 190017-13).
“The jury held Crane Co. liable for products made by other manufacturers, and that’s inconsistent with New York tort law,” Terry Budd with K&L Gates LLP, and national trial counsel for Crane Co., told Bloomberg BNA June 19.
