Coty Says PFAS-in-Powder Suit Rests on ‘Preposterous Assumption’

Coty Inc. and Noxell Corp. struck back at a proposed class suit alleging they deceptively portray a cosmetic powder as safe despite the undisclosed presence of a chemical indicating PFAS, telling a California federal court the lead plaintiff suffered no injury beyond “unactionable buyer’s remorse.”

The lawsuit rests on “the preposterous assumption” that the many US companies whose products have detectable levels of organic fluorine—and who make general online statements referencing safety and sustainability—deceptively advertise their products, the companies said.
