Coppertone Water Babies Sunscreen Deception Suit Thrown Out

Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Inc. shook off a proposed class suit alleging it deceives consumers about kids’ sunscreen, with some claims dismissed Tuesday as preempted by federal law and others thrown out as implausible.

Barbara Truss and others sued Bayer, Beiersdorf Inc., and related companies. They alleged Coppertone Water Babies (SPF 50) sunscreen is misleadingly portrayed as hypoallergenic and free of oxybenzone, when it contains benzophenone, a known allergen and cancer-causing substance.
