Conservation Organization Petitions EPA To Set Criteria for Endocrine Disruptors

The Center for Biological Diversity petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency Jan. 11 to develop water quality criteria under the Clean Water Act for numerous chemicals the center said could damage the endocrine system.

According to the center, this would be the first step in regulating and eliminating what it called persistent and widespread chemicals that damage reproductive functions in wildlife and humans.

“There is currently a regulatory void for controlling endocrine disruptors, and our petition aims to start the process of protecting human health and wildlife from these dangerous chemicals,” Jeff Miller, a center conservation advocate, said in a written ...
