Conopco Has No Duty to Talc Line Buyer for Asbestos Claims

Conopco Inc. won’t have to defend or indemnify the purchaser of its talcum powder product line for asbestos claims, the District of Connecticut ruled.

Conopco didn’t agree to assume those liabilities in the 1993 asset purchase agreement with Parfums De Coeur Ltd., the court said.

Though Conopco agreed in 2015 to defend and indemnify PDC in one New York State asbestos suit, it didn’t agree to indemnify and defend PDC in all other equivalent asbestos litigation, the court said.
