Conagra Wants Hawaii-Brand Snack Suit in Federal Court

Conagra Brands Inc. unit Pinnacle Foods Inc. wants a deceptive marketing suit over its Hawaiian-brand snacks to proceed in federal court.

The company tricks consumers into thinking the products are made in Hawaii with local ingredients, a proposed class suit alleges.

Despite the products’ “Hawaiian” name and images of hula dancers and other Hawaiian themes on the package, the chips and onion rings are produced in Washington state and have no connection to Hawaii, Michael Maeda and Iliana Sanchez allege.

Pinnacle recently moved the suit from a Hawaii state court to the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii. ...
